About

Brenda is self-taught front-end web developer with over 15 years of professional experience. Based in NYC, she started her career in web design but soon got bit by the coding bug and prefers to work on projects where she can contribute in both capacities.

In 2019 Brenda started her own agency of one, Coquelicot, that focuses on Shopify custom theme design and development. In 2022, she was the first women owned agency to have a theme for sale in the Shopify Theme Store. The theme "Whisk" is a proud labor of love for Shopify and e-commerce.

She's been invited to speak at conferences around the world, including the most recent Shopify Editions.dev in 2024, and was awarded Best Conference Presentation at CSSDevConf in 2017.

Outside of work, Brenda is an avid pop music fan and concert goer, a passionate amateur singer and dancer, and a non-pretentious foodie.

Brenda's current favorite tech stack is straight-forward HTML/CSS/and Vanilla JavaScript with Web Components, but she is capable of jumping into a variety of code bases and immediately being productive. Besides Shopify, she also has a lot of experience working on the front-end with GraphQL, Ruby on Rails, Elixir/Phoenix, WordPress. As a designer, she is an expert in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, Sketch, and Figma. She also started her career in graphic design and has experience with print and packaging design.
